2What this notice covers

It applies to chiname.art and the pages and services we provide on it — including our trade portal, our enquiry form, and the AI speaking partner that helps learners practise Chinese.

3What we collect

What you give us. If you fill in an enquiry form or write to us on WhatsApp, WeChat or email, we receive the details you send — such as your name, contact details, country and what you are looking for.
What you say to the AI. When you use the AI speaking partner, the text you type — and any text converted from your speech — is sent to our AI service so it can answer you.
Voice, only if you allow it. The microphone is off by default. If you switch it on, your browser or operating system turns your speech into text. We receive the resulting text; we do not receive, record or store your audio.
Technical information. Our servers keep standard logs — such as IP address, time, the page requested and your browser type — so we can keep the site secure and working.
What we do not do. We do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics on this site, and we never ask for your camera.

4Why we use it

To reply to your enquiry and provide the services you ask for.
To run the AI speaking partner and return its answers to you.
To keep the service secure, and to find and fix problems.
To understand how our services are used so we can improve them.

Where data protection law such as the GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent (for voice input, which you can withdraw at any time); taking steps you have asked for under a contract (handling your enquiry and delivering services); and our legitimate interests (keeping the service secure and improving it).

5About the AI

The speaking partner is an artificial-intelligence system, not a human. We tell you this clearly on the page, and we label the content it produces.
Replies are generated automatically and may occasionally be wrong, incomplete or unnatural. Please treat them as speaking practice, not as authoritative advice.
Your typed text, and text converted from your speech, is sent to our AI service solely to generate a reply.
We do not use emotion recognition, face recognition or any other biometric profiling, and this service does not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

6Microphone and voice

Voice input is optional and off until you explicitly agree. You can stop it at any time, and withdrawing is as simple as not using the microphone button.
Speech-to-text is usually performed by your own browser or operating system provider (for example Google or Apple). Their handling of your voice is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.
We do not keep recordings — on our side, only the resulting text exists.

7Cookies, storage and links

This site does not use advertising cookies, and it does not use third-party analytics. We do not track you across other websites.
If you click a WhatsApp link you leave our site and are subject to Meta's own privacy policy. The same applies to any other external site you reach from here.

8Who we share it with

Service providers who help us run this site and the AI service — for example our hosting and AI providers — and who act only on our instructions.
Professional advisers, where necessary and proportionate.
Authorities, where the law requires us to.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent it out or trade it.

9Where your information is handled

We are based in China. The servers for this site are located in the United States, and our AI, hosting and email providers may process information in the United States or in other countries. This means your information may be transferred outside the country you live in.

Where the law requires it, we take steps to put appropriate safeguards in place for those transfers. By using this site and its services, you understand that your information may be processed outside your country.

10How long we keep it

Enquiry details: for as long as we need them to deal with your request and any resulting relationship.
Conversation text with the AI: for a limited period, to improve the service, after which it is deleted or anonymised.
Voice recordings: never stored, because we never receive them.
Server logs: for a short period, for security and troubleshooting.

11Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

See the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy.
Correct anything that is wrong or incomplete.
Delete it, where there is no good reason for us to keep it.
Restrict or object to how we use it, and ask us to transfer it to someone else.
Withdraw your consent at any time — for example, simply stop using the microphone.
Complain to your local data protection authority.

12Children

This service is not directed at children under 16. A learner under 16 should use it only with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian.

13Keeping it safe

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security — but we work to keep the risk low.

14Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time, for example if we add a feature or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows the current version.
